The exhibition space layout of these days art museum indicates extraordinary diversity, and [space type] for exhibition space also. Yet, there is little practical data available for [space type] for exhibition space. And it is true that past studies on exhibition space mainly associated with their exhibition space constitution with historical context, Therefore, The purpose of this study is examine the characteristics of [space type] for exhibition space. and to find out an appropriate methodology by which practical data for designers can be obtained. To do so, the study use the old and new art museums examples include Durand's museum, Boullee's museum, Corbusier's Museums, Gropius's exhibition space for construction workers association, Berlin 1931, Wright's Guggenheim museum, Mies's museum for small city, Dr Doshi's Ahmedabad museum, Gae Aulenti's Musee D'Orsay and some others museum for analysis. These cases will be examplified to illustrate the analyses of various [space type] combination. This study suggests that the primary concern of the architectural researches on museums should focus on [space type], especially in the early stage of the exhibition space in design process.
