We are facing much more rapid changes and variations in our society in the 21st century than ever before. It is never enough to emphasize the fact that nowadays the role of universities is becoming more important, which has significant influence on the society, leading the trends of the society. Among the roles of universities, volunteer work is one of the essential tasks that they should facilitate.
This study is an attempt to classify the types of university students' volunteer work and to investigate their degree of satisfaction and motivation while participating in the actual volunteer work. The specific types of volunteer work was analyzed. Suggestions for policy makers on the systemization of university students' volunteer work were also made.
Investigating students' responses on their volunteer work in their Korean Language Classes of Association for Foreign Worker's Human Rights, this study revealed the significance of volunteer work by university students with academic training and integrity. It was also found that the students could be united spiritually through the various activities during the volunteer work. Therefore, it seems never sufficient to emphasize the importance of Korean language education to facilitate the communication between Koreans and the foreign workers. Finally, since the diversity of education is highly valued at the present time in the 21st century, more systematic efforts are needed to organize and support volunteer program for university students.
