The purpose of this paper is to explore the pastoral leadership training and development in relationship to church community, ministry and theological education. This paper attempts to deal with three points in order to develop pastoral leaders in theological seminary. First, church's identity and its image need to be examined in order to understand the direction of the theological education. Second, the image and the function of the ministry affect the professionalization of theological education. Third, this paper provides curricular and educational methods in the lights of educational seminary.
Many scholars insist that the problem of theological education is not profession of theological seminary more so it is the uncertainty of Christian's identity and perspective of church. This paper suggests three directions for theological education. The first part of the paper explores the church community and theological education. The church's identity and its image need to be reconstructed in order to meet the needs of the current era. Second, self understanding of the church will remake the image of the church structure. In order to become a professional theologian, pastors should be able to effectively carry out various functions of the ministry. Thirdly, becoming a professional minister means to become a practical theologian and a practical Christian thinker. Thus, theological education must provide curriculum, training and methods for practical thinkers and reflective practice. In order to produce a practical theologian, seminary has to provide practical curriculum for Christian faith, ethics and spiritual practice.
