Owing to the close tie between language and society it is natural that the social alteration should permeate into the language of the day. China has been suffering rapid and radical changes since Deng Xiaoping's reforming and opening-up. That is, China has shifted politic-centered environment to economic-centered one, isolated commerce to liberalized international trade and has entered into the information revolution stage.
Such a social movement has caused significant and wide-ranging changes in Chinese: Chinese verbal system, the mode of people's language use, the character of linguistic transformation, and the language policies. Needless to say, these changes reflect an atmosphere of China now. The following is characteristics of such a change:
1. Linguistic transformation is very dynamic.
2. Chinese is in frequent and vital contact with foreign languages of neighbor or faraway countries.
3. We can observe divergent variants in verbal system.
4. China emphasizes standardization, international communication and information processing in language planning.
