There was a huge growth of Christian schools between the1960s and 1970s in America, primarily in reaction to the problems of the public school education. Similarly, the Christian alternative school movement began in the 1990s in Korea, and a growth of Christian alternative schools is expected in the near future due to the problems of the public school, the limitations of mission schools, and the introduction of a new educational law on alternative schools. According to the law, which will be effective within 2009, nonprofit organizations and individuals can establish accredited alternative schools more easily than before. In spite of the past growth and expected future growth of Christian alternative schools in Korea, there have not been any studies that have addressed Korean parents’ motivations to send their children to Christian schools. The purpose of this study is to suggest research implications and provide educational recommendations for Korean church leaders, Christian schools, and Christian parents, based on both the review of empirical studies on the parents’ choice of Christian alternative schools and biblical and theological perspectives.
