This study aims to examine socioeconomic and residential features of single-person households in Seoul. It also explores spatial patterns and characteristics, and suggest policy implications for housing supply and development in Seoul. The number of single-person households amounts to 24% of total households. They are mainly divided into the elderly and the youth, and less likely to have jobs and thus suffer from poverty. They are inclined to reside in rental and small-sized houses, and prefer to living in the area close to job centers and accessible by public transit. Also, their residential area can be grouped into five clusters. Four policy suggestions are presented to consider the traits of single-person households and their spatial patterns. First, it is necessary target households for current housing policies need to be diversified in response to changing household structure. Second, diverse housing supply programs for them should be prepared, while considering various age and income brackets such as linkage program. Also, spatial and locational characteristics need to be taken into account while enhancing housing welfare programs. Last, national housing standard (85㎡) should be reexamined in order to reflect on changing population and household structure.
