Purpose: This study was conducted to explore older adults" views on smart phone use and the way to obtain health information for better health management. Methods: Data were collected through individual and group interviews with 14 older adults who use the smart phone from April 15, to August 30, 2012. The data were analyzed using qualitative thematic analysis. Results: The findings were classified into seven themes: Feeling like responding to the changing of the times, entertaining like a friend, inconvenience from unfamiliarity, closer bonds, burden of expenses, convenient life with up-to-date information, and prioritized health-related information. In particular, the study showed significant interest and recognition of older adults as to how to access health-related information through the smart phone, though there was still plenty of scope for its usage. Conclusion: The findings indicate that nurses should check the source of health information, the motivation for using the smart phone, and its payment system for older adults in healthcare centers and community, providing them with education on health information based upon their abilities to utilize the smart phone.
