The purpose of the study was to analyze blood lactate, oxygen saturation, heart rate, and heart rate variability (HRV) after maximal exercise test in amateur marathoners. Twenty-four amateur marathoners volunteered to participate in this study. They divided into three groups by marathon record times (Superior group=8, record: <3 hour; Moderate group=8, record: 3-4 hour; Inferior group=8, record: >4 hour). Body composition was estimated by DXA (Hologic, QDR-4500, USA). Subjects performed maximal exercise test on treadmill using KISS protocol. VO₂max, RER, HRmax, and exercise duration time. heart rate blood lactate, and oxygen saturation were measured at rest, all-out, and during recovery (2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 minutes after exhaustion). All data were analyzed by SAS 9.3 and presented in terms of means and standard deviations. Two-way repeated measure ANOVA was applied to determine the interaction effect of the group and time on dependent variables. Paired t-test were used to evaluate the main effects of within and between the groups. A level of significance was set at p<.05 The main results of this study indicated that body weight and percent body fat were significantly higher in the inferior group than the superior group (p<.01, p<.001) and moderate group (p<.05, p<.01) respectively. VO2max was significantly higher in the superior and moderate groups than the inferior group. There was significant difference in exercise duration time among the groups. Low and high frequency of HRV was more higher in the superior group than the inferior group (p<.05). There was no interaction effect in the heart rate during recovery, however, there was main effect (F=4.569, p<.05; F=222.779, p<.001) between group and time. Blood lactate showed main effect (F=114.470, p<.001) in time. Oxygen saturation was observed interaction effect (F=2.448, p<.05) between group and time. The present results suggest that these variables were considered to develop an effective training program for marathoners, and a further study should investigate those physiological reactions occurring during a marathon race.
