It is truism to state that the major research trend of sport and leisure studies has been focused upon the positive effects from leisure and sport participation with regard to character building and life satisfaction However, the research frame of the most studies seemed to be deficient from standpoints of theory building and application of the research results. That is to say that significant aspcets of antecedents and consequencies of leisure behavior have been vastly neglected in conduction the leisure research and interpreting their results. Thus, the purpose of this paper was focused upon reviewing update leisure behavior theory in order to probe and present a more rigorous research method. In order to meet the puropse of this position paper, Iso-Ahola`s attribution theory of leisure behavior and path of leisure behavior have been reviewed in depth. In addition, three primary factors influencing the leisure behavior-perceived freedom, intrinsic motivation, and competence-were discussed. Considering the fact that the competence aspect being one of the most practical areas that the professionals and practioners apply for the delivery of leisure service, flow theory of Csikszentmihalyi has been reviewed. Based upon the aforementioned literature review, the role and task of the professionals and practioners in conducting the research on personality development and sport/leisure participation was discussed. The primary suggestions drawn upon in conducting the sport and leisure participation research are followings: 1) The dimension of personality should be considered. Research should be focused upon in understanding the multidimensionary aspects of personality. 2) The type and degree of leisue involvement should be the focal point of research performance. 3) Situatioanl social influences of leisure behavior should be counted. 4) An individuals` developmental stage should also be considered.
