This article explores the situation of women’s low political participation in South Korea and the Korean feminist organizations’ activities to enhance women’s political representation. The electoral gender quotas were first introduced in South Korea in 2000 and have been gradually developed up to the present. These achievements have largely been based on women’s organizations’ continuous efforts. Although there has been a slow progress in terms of women’s quantitative representation in South Korea since the adoption of quota system, there is still a long way to go. In order to re-boost energy of activism for women’s political representation, we need to consider the following matters. Above all, we need more in-depth analysis on what women’s political participation means and how we can substantially achieve it. Thus, it is time to widen perspectives of women’s political empowerment and make new goals and strategies to enhance political representation. Furthermore, we also need to discuss about how to make the most effective alliances with other women’s organizations and female politicians in planning new strategies and collecting our energy for the future activism.
