This paper is based on the study of Yukio Mishima`s `Sound of the Waves`. It is a study of the function and role of the island in the literary space that appeared in Japan after the war. Mishima was fascinated by ancient Greece. He carved the Utajima of `Sound of the Waves` into a special utopian space．It is a small southern island isolated from the civilized world. It was a place where healthy young men and women achieve pure and sensual love under the grace of the gods and beautiful natural surroundings.
The romance novels about the complete harmony of moral man and beautiful nature were warmly received by the public after the war. Utajima of `Sound of the Waves` is a place where beautiful natural environment and pure love exist. It is `Heterotopia` which is located in the present post-war era but as a foreign space. However, Heterotopia emphasizes the devastation of the reality of "post－war" and the isolated and isolated situation of "island." In the end, Heterotopia is a reflection of Japan`s irrevocable return to an irrevocable time or a vision of a peaceful island protected by the gods forever.
