One of the important factors to consider when designing a shell and tube evaporator is to obtain an optimal heat exchange surface area by using accurate heat transfer coefficients. In this paper, the heat transfer characteristics are compared and analyzed, using models available in the open literature for the nucleate boiling heat transfer. The correlation of Stephan and Abdelsalam shows lower heat transfer coefficient than other correlations. Whereas the correlation of Cooper shows higher heat transfer coefficient. The correlation of Mostinski is almost a median value among the other correlations. It is considered that the basic design of the heat exchanger can be performed from the correlations of Cooper and Mostinski.
