Literatures could be materials to experience life problems in a symbolic dimension, and student-readers could cultivate their mental forms for interpretation of literary texts and evaluation of life issues. On this perspective, this study shows that the interpretation of texts and moral evaluation are closely related in structurally.
Lee, Ok(李鈺)’s ｢Hyeop-chang-gi-mun(俠娼紀聞)｣ is a proper text for open- interpretation. With this text, student-readers made their moral evaluation of the ‘kisang(妓生)’ who killed herself with fatal drinking and sex. Results are as follows:Affective readers who focused on characters’ feelings tried to evaluate the character’s motive after imagination of the relationship between the kisang and the man who died with her. Cognitive readers operated their ‘moral imagination’ along interpretive clues to explore other possibilities of life, or evaluated the behavior of kisang in the light of moral principles. Meanwhile, readers who attached importance to the narration, made their evaluations of practicing attitudes for moral behaviors.
