Purpose: This paper is intending to look into the task of journalism in charge of infectious diseases through the diagnosis and evaluation of the domestic media which reported the MERS situation. Methods: The data consists of conversation during Focus Group Interviews which were recorded. This paper is to analyze domestic media’s tendency of reporting at the time of MERS situation, and to check the role of the government and the media through the interviews with reporters at the press and the general public. Results: The traditional media, such as domestic paper and broadcasting, etc., is coming under evaluation that they failed to report the riskiness of MERS properly at the right time at the time of MERS situation, nor were they insufficient in information delivery function which connected the government with the public. The general public is doing a consumer’s role of coming across risk-related news reported by the media, and further playing a role of directly producing news as well as spreading it through social media simultaneously. Conclusion: The press is required to make efforts for only proper information to be printed by adequately verifying the coverage away from the lure of sensationalism. The general public is getting information about infectious diseases through the media, but they are equipped with the ability to select medical information on their own judgment. For the press to survive the rapidly changing media environment like this, there is no way but to make the change on its own.
