In Korean context of terminology policy, standardization and planning are often confused. So primarily we will clarify these confused notions, and we will see that terms such as standardization or purification are no more very much used in the terminological context of planning. Instead, the management of diversity, localization, socioterminology are the issue. ISO, the International Organization of Standardization published many Norms concerning the methodology and guidance for terminology policy and work, but their attitude towards terminology policy has changed : Instead of unification or elimination of irrelevant terms, a terminology work puts as main goal the control of linguistic insecurity and the harmonization of concepts. French experience of terminology planning shows that terminology is the key element of language enrichment and development so that terminology will be treated inside of general linguistic policy. Korea also is a country which possesses the powerful language law and defines terminology as public language. ISO's perspectives and France's experience will show how the terminology policy and planning should be oriented.
