Yoga means the restraint of all thought-actions through concentration and meditation. The primary aim of yoga is to restore mind to the condition of simplicity and peace, and to free confusion and distress. This sense of calmness comes from the practice of Asanas and Pranayama. By restoring the physical body, Yoga frees the mind from the negative feelings caused by the stressful modern life. Asanas are one of the major tools of yoga. All the physical exercises necessary for keeping the body in a perfect condition can be found in the asana, but only this is not the purpose of Yoga. Their benefits range from the physical level to the spiritual. Therefore, yoga is called “sarvaanga sadhana” holistic practice. The practice of Yoga fills up the reservoirs of hope and gives a positive way of life. Regular practice which is based on the self-realization brings to look at oneself and ones’ goals in the new light. It will help remove the obstacles to good health and stable emotions. Also Yoga helps integrate the mental and physical plane, and it offers a sense of inner and outer balance or alignment. That is why the meaning of the yoga could not be changed by need or purpose. Yoga itself indicates the philosophy of Yoga. In this way, yoga helps to achieve emancipation and self realization, which is the ultimate goal of every individual.
