The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical manifestations of burning mouth syndrome (BMS) patients, treated at the Department of Oral Medicine, Chosun University Dental Hospital. Between February 2014 and February 2015, a total of 210 patients that reported with BMS were included for this study. We investigated the gender, age, systemic disease of patients, the site of pain, diagnosis, and the methods and duration of treatment. The female-to-male ratio was about 5:1, and the ratio of patients above the age of 50 was about 90%. The most affected site was the tongue and the anterior two-third region. Medication relieved the symptoms in 28.9% of the patients, and 86.9% of the patients reduced pain within 6 months. Many clinicians find it difficult to r cognize and treat BMS because the causes aren’t completely known, and it is a multifactorial disease. Thus, more studies need to be done to understand BMS, thereby leading to its effective treatment and mitigation.
