The cruise tourism is a one of the fastest growing industry with a great ripple effect in economic aspects. Thus, many Korean ports regard cruise as new growth engines, Busan port(the largest port in Korea) is also taking actions to attract more cruise tourists. As a cruise port of call, Busan has superior geographical advantages and port infrastructure, therefore, the cruise industry is expected to grow.
This study suggests methods to improve Busan cruise port’s competitiveness as a port of call using the SWOT/AHP analysis methods. Through analysis of preceding research and discussion with related specialists from shipping industry and academia, SWOT factors of Busan cruise port as a port of call were selected. Then, using surveys with experts, the relative degrees of importance of SWOT groups and detailed evaluation factors were analyzed. The factors with the highest importance were selected and S/O, W/O, S/T, W/T strategic tasks were drawn.
