The physical properties of woven fabrics such as yarn crimp, tensile strength, elongation, tear strength, bursting strength, air permeability, cover factor, tightness, thickness and weight per unit area were investigated on the seventeen different fabrics of plain, twill, sateen and basket weave. The samples were prepared from the fabrics woven with one kind of cotton yarn under the same tension in weaving process. Crompton & Knowles S-6 Loon was used in weaving. As a result of analyzing the experimental data by the related theory of fabric geometry, it is realized that the number of yarn intersections per inch is one of the most important factors which affect many physical properties of fabrics. The results are as follows: 1. The number of yarn intersections Per inch has the Positive retationship with the tensile strength as well as the elongation and the negative relationship with the air permeability. 2. The higher value of weave factor and the less difference in sum of neighboring yarns of upper and lower part of a yarn parallel to the direction of tear, the more increases the tear strength. 3. No significant difference of physica1 properties were observed on the same harness sateen weaves having different counter number. 4. The maximum number of picks per inch weavable in a fabric is limited by the number of ends per inch in the same weave and if tile ends per inch is constant in different weaves, the maximum number of picks per inch increases as the weave factor increases.
