This study re-defined customer clusters based on food related lifestyle and made analysis on eating and eating out behavior differences amongst different customer clusters. Self-administered questionnaire was conducted on 6,176 adults. For statistical analysis, factor analysis, cluster analysis, χ²-tests of independence, ANOVA were performed using IBM SPSS Statistics (ver. 24.0). Four factors were derived and each of the four factors was named as follows: 1) Health-Safety pursuit, 2) Convenience pursuit, 3) Gourmet pursuit, and 4) Intrinsic value pursuit. In addition, three clusters were derived from cluster Analysis, which was conducted for the purpose of classifying similar food related lifestyle customer groups. The three clusters were named after the high average value among the four factors obtained from food related lifestyle in each of the three clusters. Cluster names are as follows; Cluster 1: Health & Safety oriented group, Cluster 2: High involvement group, and Cluster 3: Gourmet & Intrinsic value-oriented group. Health & Safety oriented group turned out to have practical eating out behavior. High involvement group does not eat out often and considered taste and cleanliness as important factors. Gourmet & Intrinsic value-oriented group turned out to be 1) enjoying new food, 2) having diverse types of preferred restaurants, 3) regarding taste as important factor in deciding eating out, and 4) showing high frequency of eating out, which makes the group important in market segmentation. This study presented clear trends in market segmentation through the analysis on eating and eating out behavior differences based on food related lifestyle. Thus, this study can be used not only in market analysis and market segmentation strategy formulation but also in setting up marketing strategy.
