Recently the growth of the elderly population lead to the development and change in the housing part. Among them elderly welfare housing, which is a facility aimed at providing convenient service and community space for senior citizens, is also provided. The purpose of this study is to identify the current condition of elderly welfare housing and analyze the area of unit to provide basic data for calculating the appropriate area of unit size. The subjects of the study were 14 elderly welfare houses in the Seoul metropolitan area(Seoul, Incheon, Gyeonggi) out of 35 for nationwide. The study focused on comparing and analyzing the size and composition of each unit where senior citizens spend the most time in daily lives. As a result of the research, the space composition can be divided into 4 types which are one-room, one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and three-bedroom. The characteristics were different depending on the type of space composition, and the size of unit could be divided by each type of space composition. Based on this study, it is necessary to define guidelines on the appropriate area of elderly welfare housing.
