Retinoic acid is a family of retinoids which are derived from vitamin A. It plays significant roles including antioxidation, vision, learning and memory, and inflammatory function. It also regulates neurological signaling functions, such as synaptic plasticity, neurogenesis, and blood-brain barrier development. Ischemic stroke is the most common stroke and is characterized by cerebral artery occlusion. It also induces neuronal injury by increasing oxidative stress and free radicals. Thioredoxin is a class of small redox proteins and regulates many important biological functions, such as redox signaling and immunological response. It is also have potent neuroprotective effects by reducing free radicals. Peroxiredoxin-2 is a member of peroxiredoxin family which belongs to antioxidant enzymes. It is mostly expressed in neurons of the cerebral cortex and hippocampus.
