Gene therapy is one of promising therapeutic drugs to treat diabetes, cancer, rheumatism, and incurable diseases through gene transfer such as DNA and RNA. Effective gene delivery into a target cell or tissue is the most important part of gene therapy development. The development of a stable and suitable gene delivery system can significantly reduce the risk profile of clinical gene therapy. Although various non-viral and viral systems have been reported, there are still many limitations including toxicity and immunogenicity in pharmaceutical applications. Cellulose nanocrystals have excellent biocompatibility and properties, so they are used in various industries and research.
