Objectives: The purpose of this study is to identify the utilization of preventive dental service for the disabled people in National Health Insurance(NHI), South Korea.
Methods: This study analyzed the service use of scaling and sealants in the disabled people using Healthcare Bigdata Hub managed by Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service(HIRA) from 2013 to 2018.
Results: The service uses of both scaling and sealants increased every year. The increasing rate was more significant in patients with disabilities than total population in NHI. In the disabled people the usage of scaling service was decreased in 40 to 69 year-old people but the sealants rate increased by age. The males used the service more both in scaling and sealants.
Conclusions: In order to increase access to preventive dental care for the disabled people, it is necessary to organize the system such as registered dentist program and realistic additional point in NHI for disabled people. All the dental professionals needs to make efforts together to improve the accessibility of dental service for the vulnerable people.
