The purpose of this study is to investigate how fluency, complexity, accuracy and error patterns develop in the written texts of Korean language learners at the University of Utah, and to evaluate the university's Korean curriculum based on the results. In order to investigate these issues, the number of words used per sentence, TTR (Type-Token Ratio), the number of subordinate clauses, the number of clauses without errors per sentence, as well as errors related to grammar and vocabulary were analyzed. This analysis reveals that Korean language learners' fluency and complexity improves as their proficiency increases. However, degree of accuracy does not improve even for advanced learners. This is in contrast to some previous studies which have shown that Korean learners' degree of accuracy improved as their proficiency increased. These results indicate that Korean language learners at American colleges have lower abilities in morphosyntatic sophistication, and it is very difficult to acquire morphosyntactic sophistication because of their circumstances, including exposure to the language and their lack of perception of the importance of the differences between the two languages. Given these morphosyntactic issues, it is necessary to recognize the importance of grammatical knowledge, for example, understanding the differences between the Korean and English sentence structures, and becoming conscious of sentence
