This study on the relationship between dance and emotional intelligence consists of three parts: introduction of the concepts on emotional intelligence, exploration of the functions of emotion in dance, and relationship between dance and emotional intelligence. We have explored the relationship between dance and emotional intelligence in the three areas:first, recognizing and expressing emotion, regulating emotion, and utilizing emotion. The results of the study are as follows:First, the ability to recognize and express emotion is one of the necessary abilities in shaping self-identity, especially for students in adolescence which is called a mirror period. Emotional intelligence can be developed by dance education, which expresses an emotion objectively and triggers other emotions. Second, the ability to regulate emotion, which also means the ability to control oneself, is an ability to transform negative factors into positive ones, and therefore, it is also called motivation. Motivation is one of the psychological values of dance(giving motivation, boosting confidence, and strengthening concentration), and it is an ability that is taught through dance. Third, one of the goals of dance is to understand and communicate emotions. Therefore, emotion in dance is not only an essential component but also a human ability that can be naturally used. Dance education, therefore, is effective in increasing emotional intelligence of the learners.
