The purpose of this study was to investigate the change of blood lipids and stress hormones after exercise program in high school smokers. The experimental and control groups consisted of 10 smokers respectively, and compare group consisted of 10 nonsmokers. During 6 weeks' period, experimental and compare group had participated in the walking exercise program which was composed of 60-70%(HRmax) intensity activity, lasted for 30 minutes a day, took place 5 times a week. In order to compare the effects of the exercise program between each group, paired t-test & ANCOVA were used. The results were as follows; after exercise, total cholesterol and LDL-C were significantly different in experimental and compare groups, and between 3 groups comparison. HDL-C was significantly different in compare group only. After exercise, cortisol was significantly different in experimental and compare groups, and between 3 groups. Epinephrine was significantly different in compare group, and between 3 groups comparison. Norepinephrine showed significant difference in compare group only. In conclusion, the results show that the walking exercise helped high school smokers to decrease blood lipids and stress hormones, So it is thought that the walking exercise makes positive changes in blood composition. The subjects of this study was high school smokers, so there was a limit to everyone. It is regretful not to continue this study after 6 weeks. Therefore there is a necessity for expanding the extent of experimental groups and applying the various exercises and periods. There must be more studies afterward.
