Japan put a top priority on the invasion of the continent and focused its efforts on the construction of the Gyeongbu Railroad with the top priority of connecting the border between mainland Japan and the Chinese continent to the shortest period in Joseon.
In particular, Japan decided Daejeon as its base station after a long review to prevent France, Russia, the Joseon government, and Joseon private capitalists from installing the Honam Railroad separately while setting the route for the Gyeongbu Railroad. As a result, all attempts to build railway lines in the south of the Korean Peninsula have been made in the form of branch lines on the Gyeongbu Railroad. Japan, which was geographically close to the Korean Peninsula, quickly began construction if it obtained the right to lay it under the support of its home country and private capital participation, while the U.S. and France failed to start construction within the promised date with the Joseon government. In the race for the right to construct railroads, there was a big gap in strategy, posture, and preparation. Japan"s construction of a railroad network centered on the Gyeongbu Railroad eventually led to regional unbalanced development in Korea.
