Traffic accidents are occurring frequently these days. Research using a driving simulator while accessing the driver’s biosignal analysis is being actively conducted. From previous studies, TENS is known to increase sympathetic nerve activity of drivers and also known to improve motor and visual ability, posture control, and cognitive functions. Based on these results, the we attempt to compare the driving performance capabilities depending on whether TENS is applied to the driving simulator. Fifteen subjects participated in the experiment. Subject s biological signals, ECG, EDA, and TEMP, were measured through to biosignal detecting device. Cognitive ability was measured through d2 test. Parameters in the simulator were analyzed to observe the driving ability. Compared to the unskilled driving group, experiment time was decreased in the skilled group, and the number of vehicles passing during the unprotected left turn increased.
TENS stimulation increased the experiment time and the correct answer rate of d2 test was increased. As a result of biosignal analysis, heart rate and skin temperature were decreased, and skin conductivity and respiration rate were increased. In this study, it was possible to confirm whether driving performance capabilities could be compared through a driving simulator, and also whether TENS could improve driving performance capabilities.
