Background: As individuals who will soon be entering society, college students should cultivate a positive and accepting attitude toward disability so that they can work alongside those with disability. The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors that influence disability acceptance attitudes.
Methods: The data of 81 college students who participated in a simulated disabled experience booth operated for one day during the festival period at one college were analyzed. Data analysis was performed using SPSS statistics program 25.0, descriptive statistics, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis.
Results: The results of this study showed that the factors affecting college students’ acceptance of disability acceptance attitudes were the following sub-factors of disability perception: ‘efforts to promote interaction with students with disability’ (β=.52) and ‘recognition of relationships with students with disability’ (β=.52). The explanatory power of these two sub-factors for disability acceptance attitudes was 74.0%.
Conclusion: To improve affect college students’ attitude toward disability, a disability awareness improvement program to promote interaction and relationship awareness among students with disability should be provided in various ways.
