This study focuses on the recent emergence of a Metaverse platform that facilitates real-time interaction between users and provides online content through virtual environments and proposes a Metaverse-based education platform suitable for future cyber university education through analysis of the educational use of major Metaverse platforms. In this study, it was found that the biggest limitation of the major Metaverse platform currently used in the education field was the lack of a regular learning management system. Expert interviews suggest that a Metaverse-based remote education platform should be designed in consideration of usability and convenience so that both instructors and learners can ease their reluctance, and adopt the use of the new platform. In addition, it was analyzed that learning outcomes could be improved if experiments such as AR/VR, experience-oriented learning opportunities, and functions to encourage communication and collaborative activities between learners are secured. Based on the analyzed requirements and functional suggestions, this study proposes a Metaverse-based Online Education Platform for Cyber University model (MOEP4CU) that adds a site view management function, Metaverse management function, and AR/VR content management function to support the existing cyber university remote education.
