This study has performed a questionnaire survey amongst 200 college women majoring in skin care in Seoul from September 2 to 20, 2013 in order to find out the effects of the Five Factors of Personality Traits on their stress level and how to handle stress. According to the analysis, openness to experience was the highest among their personality traits. ‘future career and getting a job’ was most stressful. In terms of correlations between the big-five model and college women’s stress, a positive correlation was found in neurosis while a negative correlation was detected in extroversion, friendliness, diligence, and openness to new experiences. In those term of a problemcentric handling method, a negative correlation was observed in extroversion(r=-.326, p<.001), diligence(r=-.337, p<.001), and openness to new experiences(r=-.176, p<.05). In terms of an emotion-centric handling method, on the contrary, a significant positive correlation was detected in extroversion(r=.268, p<.001) and diligence(r=.284, p<.001). As neurosis was high with low diligence, stress on ‘future career and getting a job’, ‘economy’, and ‘value’ was high. When neurosis was high with low extroversion, stress on schoolwork was high. In addition, when diligence and extroversion were high, a problem-centric handling method was high. When both neurosis and diligence were high, on the contrary, the emotion-centric handling method was high. Therefore, this study can provide necessary basic data to develop an effective training course or program which account personality traits to support for college women majoring in cosmetology to mange stress effectively.
