The purpose of this research is to study the errors in English-Korean translation by English-speaking learners of Korean, which have received little attention in the previous studies. To this end, we built an English-Korean translation corpus of English-speaking learners of Korean. In the corpus, we found a large number of meaning-related errors, the errors related to multiple different linguistic levels, the domino-type error effect (where one error triggers another error), and translation-specific errors. These do not fit into any category in the previous error classification system. Thus, we claim that it is necessary to build a new error classification which covers not only the errors in free-writings but also the errors in translation. Regarding the purpose of translation, we further argue it is necessary to focus on semantic and pragmatic meanings in translation education. As it is the first attempt to analyze the errors in English-Korean translational corpus, this study prepares the basis of Korean translation education for English-speaking learners of Korean.
