This research intends to identify the effects of macro-socioeconomic factors on public happiness. A bottom-up spillover theory that supposes that each socioeconomic factor affects individual overall happiness is adopted to support this idea. Local government was selected as the unit of analysis, and OLS regression was used while choosing probity of government, trust of centralㆍmetropolitanㆍlocal government, satisfaction with several public services, and macro economic conditions as independent variables, and the average individual happiness as the dependent variable. When the survey data were analyzed, the results showed that satisfaction with environment, educationㆍsportsㆍcultureㆍart service and safety, and ratio of financial independence have statistically significant effects on public happiness. In conclusion, this research is worthwhile in that the result proposes the empirical solution of what government should do for public happiness, and provides guidance for e local government role.
