Patients with dental phobia are not disabled person but dentally disabled, so they cannot receive dental treatment at outpatient clinics. Patients with dental phobia often have a variety of complex dental problems. This not only affects masticatory function and aesthetics, but is also related to quality of life. Therefore, dentists should analyze the causes of dental phobia through sufficient consultation and find possible treatment methods for patients’ dental care. In cases where traditional behavior management techniques such as systematic desensitization and flooding are ineffective, intravenous sedation or outpatient general anesthesia may be considered as alternatives. In this case, Overall dental treatment was performed in combination with general anesthesia and outpatient treatment. Time-consuming and invasive dental treatment was performed under general anesthesia (ex. Tooth extraction and implantation), and dressing and stitch out were performed at outpatient clinic to help the patient adapt to dental treatment. Dental treatment was performed twice under general anesthesia, and the remaining treatments were completed as outpatient clinic. Patients can receive a variety of treatments as outpatients, starting with simple treatment and progressing to complex treatment.
Trying dental treatment in various ways not only helps patients with dental phobia overcome their fear, but also allows them to receive the dental treatment they absolutely need.
