Global warming has caused sea levels to rise and water temperatures to increase, which is worsening abnormal climate conditions. In Korea, annual precipitation has increased by 135.4 mm over the past 30 years, and more than 180 people have lost their lives due to flood disasters between 2011 and 2020, with the damage estimated at 4 trillion won. To prevent lake disasters like this, civil engineering facilities have been installed for a long time. However, due to the aging of civil engineering facilities, they are not functioning properly. Therefore, in accordance with the River Act, visual safety inspections of civil engineering facilities are periodically conducted by river maintenance personnel. However, safety inspection through visual inspection may result in human error, and the problem of not being able to collect various data generated during the inspection process arises. In this study, a method of measuring cracks in old civil engineering facilities was studied using image processing techniques. A 32-bit color image was converted to an 8-bit binary image, cracks were detected in the converted image, and length and width were measured. The results of this study will improve safety inspection of old civil engineering facilities.
