The purpose of this study is to identify factors regarding the level of satisfaction among mothers of preschoolers. The study was framed from the basis of review of previous studies and literatures.
The theoretical framework of this study was derived from Barnard''s parent-child interaction model to identify the effect of mother''s overall health problems, parenting beliefs, parenting stress, perception of emotional status and behaviors in children, social support from her husband, social support from others, and demographic variables to their level of parenting satisfaction.
The 359 subjects of this study were collected from the mothers of preschooler, the firstborn and healthy. The questionnaires for this study were collected from August 1st to November 21th of 2012. The data collected were analyzed using SPSS 20.0. The main results of this study are as follows.
1) The mean of mother''s parenting satisfaction degree was 5.94 out of 7.
2) The humanitarian parenting beliefs(r=.128, p=.015), perception of emotional and behaviors in children(r=.370, p<.001), social support from her husband(r=.384, p<.001), social support from others(r=.312, p<.001) were correlated with mother''s parenting satisfactions. The mother''s parenting stress(r=-.411, p<.001) and overall health problems(r=-.292, p<.001) had negative correlations with mother''s parenting satisfaction.
3) There were significant differences in the level of parenting satisfaction due to the mother''s job (t=2.475, p=.014), planed pregnancy (t=3.074, p=.002), total number of children (t=2.221, p=.027), and parenting educations (F=4.328, p=.005). Also, for environmental variables the husband''s age(F=3.063, p=.048), monthly income of the household (F=2.870, p=.036) seem to have an influence as well.
4) The resulting analysis of predictors such as the mother''s job, planed pregnancy, parenting educations, overall health problems, parenting stress, perception of emotional status and behaviors in children, husband''s age, social support from her husband that influence mother''s parenting satisfaction were explainable by 31.5 %.
In conclusion, mother''s parenting satisfaction is likely to be influenced by mother''s job, planed pregnancy, parenting educations, overall health problems, parenting stress, perception of emotional status and behaviors in children, husband''s age, and social support from her husband.
On the basis of this study, after considering the children''s temperament, further assessment of the parenting satisfaction of preschooler''s mother is recommendable. Since siblings can influence the satisfaction level, there is a need to study single-child mothers as subjects. I suggest the development of nursing intervention programs for stress reduction. I also suggest the development of parents education programs for fathers to support mother''s rearing children.
