Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships between organizational culture for infection control and practice of standard precaution, and explore the mediating role of self-efficacy in Hospital nurses.
Methods: A descriptive research design was used. The subjects of this study were nurses working for more than 6 months at the Hospital. Data collection was done using a self-report questionnaires on organizational culture for infection control, self-efficacy, and practice of standard precaution in June 2019. Total 172 nurses participated for survey paper. IBM SPSS Statistics 21 was used and descriptive statistics, frequency, Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple regression were conducted. Baron & Kenny method and Sobel test were adopted for analysis of the mediation effect on self-efficacy.
Result: The mean scores of organizational culture for infection control and practice of standard precaution were 5.64 and 4.49 respectively and self-efficacy was 3.98. Practice of standard precaution was positively associated with self-efficacy (r=.53, p<.001), and organizational culture for infection control(r=.39, p<.001). Self-efficacy plays a full mediation in the relationship between organizational culture for infection control and practice of standard precaution (Z=5.00, p<.001).
Conclusion: These results showed that improving self-efficacy may help in increasing practice of standard precaution.
