The purpose of this study is to identify the association between social capital and life satisfaction among elders, examining the mediation role of empowerment.
Among 414 original responses, 408 participants were included in the final analysis using IBM SPSS Statistics 20.0 and AMOS 20.0.
According to the results, social capital showed direct effects on the level of life satisfaction. Secondly, it was confirmed that higher awareness of social capital was associated with higher levels of empowerment. Thirdly, it was found that higher levels of empowerment were associated with greater life satisfaction. Lastly, it was found that social capital had a positive effect on life satisfaction through empowerment.
The results of the current study highlights practical implications for future support on elderly population. Practical and political efforts are suggested to assist elders form social capital, to ultimately increase empowerment for greater quality of life.
The results support and expand the current literature to clarify the association between social capital, satisfaction in life and impact of elderly population. Detailed implications and future research directions are discussed.
