Objectives : The purpose of this study was to compare dietary intake of gastric cancer patients aged over 40 year according to gender.
Methods : Data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examine Survey the 7th (2016∼2018) were used for the study. The study compared gastric cancer patients in general characteristics(age, marriage, marital status, house hold income, education, diagnosis of high blood pressure/diabetes mellitus, drink/smoking or not), anthropometric measurement(height, weight, obesity), biochemical characteristics(fasting plasma glucose, FPG), blood urea nitrogen(BUN), creatine, triglyceride, cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure) and nutrient intake using Korean dietary reference intake(KDRI), index of nutrition quality(INQ), nutrition adequacy ratio(NAR), mean adequacy ratio(MAR) and dietary intake of gastric cancer patients according to gender.
Results : In general characteristics, there were significant different in marital status, diagnosis of high blood pressure, drink/smoking or not. In biochemical characteristics there were different of fasting plasma glucose(FPG), creatine, cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol between male and female. In KDRI, there was different in intake of energy and carbohydrate, niacin, phosphorus, sodium, iron between male and female. In INQ, there were different phosphorus between male and female. In NAR, there were different vitamin C, thiamin, niacin, calcium, phosphorus, iron and MAR between male and female.
Conclusions : Both males and females showed low overall nutrient intake quantity and quality. In particular, it was found that women''s nutritional intake was poorer than men''s because their nutritional intake was not as good as that of men, both quantitatively and qualitatively. Therefore, family, social, and national support for the nutritional management of gastric cancer patients is necessary, and it is considered that support is urgently needed, especially for women.
