The purpose of this research was to examine the effects of seniorobic exercise on resting blood pressure and cardiovascular responses in older women with hypertension. The subjects of this study were 20 older women who satisfied the following conditions: those who were at the first stage of hypertension, were participating in the exercise program for hypertension operated by the senior welfare center located in U City, and had not worked out regularly for the last six months. The guideline of Korean Society of Hypertension was utilized as the reference for classifying the types of hypertension to divide them into an exercise group and a non-exercise group (n=10 for each group). The intensity of the seniorobic exercise ranged from 70bpm to 100bpm and the seniorobic exercise program was conducted for total 8 weeks, 3 times a week, 60 minutes a day. The items measured before and after the exercise included resting blood pressure (SBP, DBP) and cardiovascular responses (pp, MAP, HRrest, RPP) at stability. To analyze the data, the paired t-test and independent t-test were employed and the significant level was set as P<.05. Through the above research procedures, the study gained the following results: regarding the changes of blood pressure and cardiovascular responses at stability after participating in the seniorobic exercise program, the exercise group indicated positive changes in SBP, DBP, MAP, HRrest, and RPP. The above result implies that the 8-week seniorobic exercise does exert positive effects on the changes of blood pressure and cardiovascular responses at stability in older women with hypertension. In addition, it is thought that seniorobic exercise is appropriate for reducing blood pressure and cardiovascular disease in older women with hypertension.
