The purpose of this research is to analyze aerobics instructors` teaching styles. For these purposes, 5 instructors of both sexes who teach aerobic in Seoul, in 1998 were selected and participated observations were executed in once a day and four times a week for each lesson. Also interviews with instructors were done in three times. These collecting data were analyzed by inductional categorical system and truth of data was heightened by member check and peer debriefing. Through the data analyzed with the above method and procedure, the research arrived at conclusions as the following. Aerobics instructors` teaching styles were divided four types like `Guide`, `Faithful`, `Self-assertion`, and `Backup`. Detailed contents are as follows: 1. `Guide` type instructors motivate their students by praising and encouragement and give rise to interest by inducing personal participation. They choose one participant as a assistant and use humor for indirect control. 2. `Faithful` type instructors are centering around contents of lesson and focusing on improvement of physical ability rather than interest. They make strict schedule of lesson but sometimes change that according to atmosphere of lesson. Also they present various homeworks. 3. `Self-assertion` type instructors are authoritative, dictatorial and representative example of conservative teaching method. They think the relationship between instructors and participants as vertical and one-sided. They schedule, execute, and value all the contents of lesson and teaching schedule shows conservative tendency. 4. `Backup` type instructors think much of logical connection of whole lesson and focus on personal relationship. They like verbal and behavioral interaction and observe whole lesson sitting-back to make the lesson proceed unhindered. Their control is passive and they focus on making intimate personal relationship rather than improvement of physical ability.
