The purpose of present study is to understand how the level of health-related physical fitness is related to serum lipids. To achieve the purpose, it examined the elements of health-related physical fitness like cardiopulmonary endurance, muscle strength, muscle endurance, the serum lipids like HDL-C(high density lipoprotein cholesterol), TC(total cholesterol, TG(triglyceride), LDL-C (low density lipoprotein cholesterol); and AI(atherogenic index) of 234 males from 30 to 59 years old. The results analysed are as follows: First, as for the change of serum lipids according to the level of VO2max, there was a significant difference in TC at 30`s and 40`s(p<.05), and in HDL-C and AI at 50`s(p<.05). Second, as for the change of serum lipids according to the level of muscle strength(that is, grip strength), it was higher in HDL-C, and lower in TC, AI, TG and LDL-C in the order of 30`s, 40`s and 50`s, but there was no significant difference. Thirdass, as for the change of serum lipids according to the level of muscle endurance(that is, sit ups), there was only significant difference in TG at 30`(p<.05). Fourth, as for the change of serum lipids according to the level of flexibility(that is, trunk flexion), there was a significant difference in HDL-C at 40`s and 50`s(p<.05). Fifth, as for the change of serum lipids according to the level of %FAT, there was a significant difference in TG at 40`s(p<.05). As for the change of serum lipids according to the level of BMI, there was a significant difference in TG at 30`s and in TC, AI, and TG at 50`s(p<.05). In conclusion, the level of health-related physical fitness has effect on the serum lipids of middle-aged males, and cardiopulmonary endurance and body composition were more influential than muscle strength, muscle endurance or flexibility.
