This thesis analyzed how to improve the roles of the social welfare in Korean Buddhism, looking for the reasons of its shortage. There reasons were the misunderstanding on the concept of the Buddhist social welfare, the shortage of the roles for almsgiving(Bosi) or the Buddhist saint.(Bosal) behavior as the practice of mercy, and much more the prevalence of praying-for-blessing faith rather than taking-blessing faith or making-blessing faith.
This thesis presents the following things to ponder the roles of the Buddhist social welfare. First, the recognition is essential that Buddhism must conduct the mission of social welfare. Second, it is necessary that the roles of the social welfare for almsgiving(Bosi) or the Buddhist saint.(Bosal) behavior be stressed on the deed of mercy. Third, it is required to reflect the roles of the social welfare, focusing on taking-blessing faith or making-blessing faith. Finally, Korean Buddhist system has to form the social welfare organization through the diversion of this recognition, and to operate and make the social welfare facilities, programs, etc.
