The purpose of this study was to provide basic data for nutrition education for juveniles" desirable vegetable intake by analyzing their vegetable intake frequency and preference according to gender of middle school students in Daegu area. The study was carried out through questionnaire. The subjects were 120 middle school students (boys 57, girls 63). The average age of the subjects was 15.0 years, height was 165.0 cm, weight was 58.0 kg and their average BMI was 21.1 kg/m2. Without gender difference, most of respondents thought that vegetables were good for health. Dietary attitude score of boys and girls students were 4.29 score and 4.42 score, respectively. In perception of vegetables by dietary attitude score, there were significant differences in attitude of ‘vegetables intake is good for body’, ‘vegetables makes variety of diets’ between high and low groups, and ‘vegetables intake is helpful in weight control’ between high and low groups. Without gender difference, 56.7 % of respondents answered that I like vegetables. Vegetable preference rates in boys and girls students were 29.1% and 27.5%, respectively. The favorite vegetable color was green, the favorite vegetable taste was sweet, the favorite vegetable cooking was salad, and the favorite vegetable texture was crunch. The frequently eaten vegetable in boys and girls students were Chinese cabbage(3.51 / 5 score) and cucumber(3.91 / 5 score), respectively. Therefore, continuous nutrition education in vegetable intakes for middle school students may be needed to improve vegetable intakes.
