This study makes the following proposals for promoting the culture of sport volunteer activities among university students majoring in physical education.
First, in order to promote physical education majors’ sport volunteer activities, it is necessary to publicize the necessities of sport volunteer activities and introduce the procedures and results of participating in sport volunteer activities using newspapers, radio, TV, smartphone, mass media, local news, university news, etc., and to stimulate potential sport volunteers’ interest and desire by holding sport volunteer competitions, festivals, or expos so that they may experience indirectly the importance of sport volunteer activities.
Second, physical education majors’ sport volunteer activities should be perceived as a practical and creative university education system for physical education majors in that physical education students have practical experiences in social life and human networks through such activities and are provided with opportunities for self‐realization and operation. Furthermore, they can improve their specialty beyond theoretical knowledge and acquire professional knowhow immediately applicable to field works.
Third, for physical education majors, sport volunteer activities give opportunities for supplementing field experiences, which the universities cannot provide. Therefore, such activities should be included in the graduation certification system and executed in association with major courses.
Fourth, it is required to organize sport volunteer centers or councils for supporting and coordinating physical education majors’ sport volunteer activities in order to build a system systematic and efficient in promoting sport volunteer activities and selecting, training, managing, evaluating, and compensating sport volunteers.
