This study was intended to present the basic data needed in the early childhood education field by examining the effect of participation in the physical education program for early childhood on fitness for performance. For this purpose, this study was conducted for a total of 67 composed of 37 male kindergarteners and 30 female kindergarteners aged 7 years in one private kindergarten providing them with early-childhood physical education located in `I` city and a total of 67 composed of 37 male and 30 female kindergarteners in one kindergarten not providing them with early-childhood physical education. The physical education program was applied to them for 20~30 minutes once a week over the 6-month period. An attempt was made to compare fitnes s(power, balance, agility and flexibility) between the kindergarteners participating in the physical education program and the non-participating kindergarteners. As a result, the following findings were obtained: 1. It was found that the male kindergarteners in the group of the kindergarteners participating in the physical education program were statistically significantly good in power, balance and agility than the group of the non-participants (p<.05) but that there was no significant difference in flexibility. 2. It was found that the female kindergarteners in the group participating in the physical education program were statistically significantly better in power, balance and agility than the non-participating group(p<.05) but that there was no significant difference in flexibility. It can be said that physical activity education is important because participation in physical education programs in early childhood has a positive effect in improving fitness. For the physical education program to be efficiently used, it is necessary to develop many programs, educate and train professional leaders and foster the educational program.
