The purpose of this study is to explore important factors of exercise adherence based on subjective opinions of professors, researchers, and sports leaders in the elderly to continue their exercise. The findings will provide direct and indirect factors of problems and improvement to promote social, psychological, and physical health, enjoy high quality of life in the old age, and encourage exercise adherence in the elderly. Q method was used because it could analyze participation factors of exercise adherence through elderly exercise participants`` subjective opinions. Preliminary items were extracted twice, item adequacy and content validity were analyzed, and finally 46 items were selected. P-sample selected consisted of 20 elderly people who resided in Gwangju and Jeollanam-do as of October, 2015 and regularly participated in exercise in the sportfor- all center or welfare center. 1 data omitted was excluded and 19 data were used for the final analysis. Forced classification was made in the Q-sorting chart according to the Q-sorting method and scores given in the distribution chart that sorted Q sample were coded in the order of the number of Q sample. Then, principal component analysis was conducted by a PC program. The following conclusions were drawn. Participation factors of exercise adherence through elderly exercise participants`` subjective opinions consisted of three types. Type 1 was ``expectation for psychological effect through social relaxation``, Type 2 was ``selfmanagement and pursuit of satisfaction through somatic palliation``, and Type 3 was ``expectation for economic effect through somatic palliation``.
