This article aims to review the research of German History in South Korea during the last two years 2015~2016. The Germany-historians in South Korea are most influenced by the demands of Korean civil society and politics to learn the ‘sucess model’ of Germany. Their research efforts have mainly focused on peace politics of West Germany before 1990, the German reunification, Germany’s new role in Europe, and migration and refugee problems. The historical education and public history were also placed at the center of the Korean research about German history.
Even if they don’t agree to a possible direct transfer of the German Model into Korea, they see themselves pressed to react to the needs and demands of the Korean society for the information and knowledge on German experience of the contemporary history and current events. Now it is not important to inquire if this trend of the research could be seen as meaningful or undue. The real point is how the highly demanded themes are to be researched beyond learning the transfer of the German ‘success model’.
