Despite of being anticipated of strong resistance and retaliatory action from China, why did the Park Geun-hye administration take the THAAD(Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) deployment? This article would be intended to explore the aforementioned issue through relations between Korea and China. The conservatism of South Korea has traditionally brought to their core ideology as anti-communism, dependence on America and economic supremacy. However, the economic upheaval of China has resulted in the rupture of the core ideology of conservatism in South Korea. The advancement of South Korea-China exchange has diluted anti-communism and dependence on America, and caused to make conflict between economic supremacy and dependence on America.
Thus, the conservatism of South Korea sought to defend their core ideology and system with the deployment of THAAD missiles following the Northeast Asia Project. In this respect, the deployment of THAAD was not simply a National defense strategy and program to the North Korea’s nuclear weapons but the ideological planning of conservatism of South Korea to perpetuate the South Korea-U.S. alliance.
